A five-point check after every shot
After you take a photo, Posepass shows it with the pose outline faintly on top and a five-item checklist: feet in the frame, head under the top line, horizon level, nothing cut at the joints and light on the face. Tick the items, then keep the shot or retake it.

What are the five checks?
They are about framing only: Feet in the frame. Head under the top line. Horizon level. Nothing cut at the joints. Light on the face. Horizon level ticks itself from the level reading at the moment of the shot, and you can override it.
How do I use the check?
The photo opens with the outline shown faintly. Toggle Compare with outline to see how close it is. Tap each row to confirm it.
If three or more rows are unchecked, the app suggests a retake with the outline, because most fixes are one step back or one knee down.
- Take the photo.
- Look at the outline overlay and tick each row.
- Tap Keep shot to save it, or Retake to go back to the camera.
Why a checklist and not a score?
A score would judge the person. These checks judge the frame, which is something the photographer can fix in one more try. The wording is deliberately practical.
Who is it for?
Anyone who has gotten home and found their feet cut off. It suits friends and partners who take each other's photos, and people shooting for a post. The check takes a few seconds, and it saves a second trip to the same spot.
What happens when I keep a shot?
It is saved inside the app, appears in the Shots tab and opens the share screen with a framed card. Photos stay in the app until you share them or save them to Photos.
See share cards.
What does each check mean in practice?
Here is what to look for on each row.
- Feet in the frame: there is a little room under the shoes. Cut-off feet are easy to miss on a small preview and obvious at home.
- Head under the top line: the head sits just below the line, with some air above it.
- Horizon level: the sea or street line is straight. The app fills this row from the level reading.
- Nothing cut at the knees or wrists: the frame edge does not slice through a joint.
- Light on the face: the face is readable, not lost in shadow or washed out by the sun behind.
How do I read the outline overlay?
Compare with outline shows the pose ghost faintly over your photo. Look at whether the head and feet land near the pose's lines. The outline is a guide and not a target, since people have different heights and proportions. A head slightly off the line is fine if the rows are ticked.
What does a retake look like?
Say you shot Crosswalk stride. The feet are cut off, the head is fine and the horizon was green. You leave Feet in the frame unticked, and with only one row open, you could keep the shot. But the cheapest fix is one more frame with the phone a step further back.
The retake hint appears when three or more rows are open. Its advice is to retake with the outline, because most fixes are one step back or one knee down.
What is the difference between Keep shot and Save photo?
Keep shot stores the photo inside Posepass, where it appears in the Shots tab. Save photo, on the shot detail screen, adds a copy to your Photos library with add-only access. Delete all shots in Settings removes the photos kept in Posepass, and the copies in Photos stay.
The shot detail also shows the checklist as chips, so you can see later which rows you ticked.
How is this different from reviewing in the Photos app?
The Photos app shows the image and offers editing tools. It does not ask framing questions. Posepass puts a short checklist in front of you while you are still at the spot, so a missing foot costs ten seconds and not a second trip. For fixes that cropping can do, see the rule of thirds guide.
What are the limits?
Only the horizon row is filled in automatically. The other four depend on your eyes, and Posepass does not detect faces, feet or exposure. It cannot judge expression either, and it is not meant to. Tick honestly and the list does its job.
How do I make the check quick?
Four habits keep it under half a minute.
- Decide the order of the five rows once and always read them the same way.
- Start with the horizon, since the level already filled it in.
- If three rows are open, retake straight away and skip fine-tuning.
